2018 Spring Newsletter

We are continuing to experience dry conditions and the entire valley and most of NSW is drought affected. We have been watering our vines during the dormant winter months to maintain soil moisture and are now looking for a few showers of rain to freshen the vineyard before budburst. The forecast is unfortunately for dry conditions, looks like we are in for another dry summer, which will result in reduced yields of high quality of grapes, similar to the previous two years.
Your Spring Pack features 3 wines from 2018, 2 from 2017 and one wine from our cellar. The first wine is our perennial favourites the 2018 Pinot Grigio. Described by Toni Paterson in the “Real Review” as bright and lively with citrus and lemongrass nuances. Medium flavour intensity, clean, youthful and bright. Exactly the wine we endeavour to make. As well as being a medal winner at the recent Hunter Valley Wine Show.
To compare we have included the 2017 Central Ranges Pinot Gris. A richer more elegant and complex wine, the perfect accompaniment to your evening pasta.
As well from the Central Ranges is the 2018 Riesling, fresh fragrant with a mouth watering dry finish. This wine was awarded a silver medal last week at the NSW Small Winemakers Show.

A wine simply to be enjoyed is the 2017 Vermentino. Fresh clearly defined with the perfume of apple and pear, with tongue coating fruit and salt which seem to combine with a touch of bitter almond on the finish.
From our cellar the beautifully layered 2015 De Novo Bianco. Still with fresh fruit aromas and a richly textured palate.
The 2018 Reserve Chardonnay comes from the vineyard adjacent to the OLD VINES and is now 25 years old itself. The wine is lightly oaked with fresh citric and white peach flavours. A great wine to accompany those beautiful Spring vegetable dishes.

We have experienced a mild Autumn and dry Winter and our cellar team have enjoyed seeing many of you in the past months. The Hunter continues to thrive as a popular destination and a relaxing tasting at the cellar seems to be just the antidote needed for time out from busy schedules.

If you are heading to the Hunter please call ahead to book a tasting and remember there is no tasting charge for you . We love showing you our range and discussing our new and aged releases.

Many visitors to our cellar often drop by on your recommendation and we do appreciate that so many of you are happy to spread the word.

Budburst and Spring are not far away and there is a buzz about as we commence the new season, so we hope to see you at our cellar soon to renew acquaintances and suggest some wines to top up your cellar.
